Live Love is developing a new program called the Foster Force. This program will provide in-depth training for fosters, which include a training manual, online resources, two all-day training sessions, and bi-monthly ongoing training meetings with professional trainers. Training will cover topics like dog communication, basic obedience, and recognizing and addressing behavior issues early. The program will be open to fosters who would like to be coached on working more effectively with dogs that have particular training or rehabilitation needs. The Foster Force training will develop the next level of fosters to meet the needs of the most at-risk dogs in the shelter, surrendered by their owners, or rescued from the streets.

Meatloaf was rescued from our local shelter in 2017 and spent nearly two years in rescue before becoming a sanctuary dog. He was abandoned by his family for biting a neighbor (level 2-3 bite) who entered their yard. In our care, Meatloaf was very loving and appropriate with his rescue family and foster family, but was adopted and returned twice due to unsuccessful training management in the home. When he felt uncomfortable, Meatloaf sought to communicate that by correcting with his mouth; unfortunately, and we were not able to rehabilitate that response out of him. As a result, we created a management plan which has been effective at keeping humans safe and ensuring Meaty feels comfortable. The reality is, dogs of all breeds and sizes use their mouth to communicate--they can bite. It is up to us as their advocates to learn their body language and needs in order to create a sustainable solution.
We envision a Foster Force that creates positive change in the world. Our aim is to open hearts, save lives, and discover our community’s true potential to achieve no-kill status. We invite you to join us on this fantastic rescue journey.
Foster Force will provide a service to our community by inspiring families to foster dogs and giving them the tools to succeed in doing so. We aim to have this program bridge the gap between good intentions and actual success for the dogs and humans alike. When more people commit to fostering, plus have the education and tools to properly rehabilitate shelter dogs, more lives will be saved, shelter pet stigmas reshaped, and human-animal bonds forged forever.
Let Them Live. Lead With Love.
